Just Turned Thirteen

Yesterday you called me mother

Wouldn’t dream of saying whore

Yet today you slapped your brother

And threw things on the floor

Yesterday I taught you right from wrong

Stern expression, no room for ‘buts’

Yet today you wore a thong

And your door is firmly shut

Yesterday you were my daughter

And a real go-getter

Yet today you watch films full of slaughter

And say that you know better.
